Authorities Dismantle Fraudulent Call Operation in Goa; 26 Arrested for Scamming Americans

Authorities in South Goa have dismantled a fraudulent call centre, arresting 26 individuals accused of deceiving American citizens. Operating out of Verna Industrial Estate, the suspects impersonated bank officials and manipulated victims into transferring funds using deceptive methods, police confirmed.

The raid took place in the early hours at a factory hub in Verna, where police discovered the illegal operation. Equipment seized includes 145 laptops, 45 mobile phones, and various electronic accessories valued at approximately Rs 55 lakh. The accused, originating from multiple Indian states, resided in rented accommodations in Sancoale.

Employed technology included VPN-based calling to disguise their identity and location. Charges have been filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act, with a local court remanding all suspects into police custody for further investigation. Authorities continue efforts to identify additional participants in this illicit network.

The public is encouraged to report suspicious activities to the national cybercrime helpline '1930' to aid in preventing such scams.
