India has once again emphasized its steadfast dedication to United Nations peacekeeping missions. At a solemn ceremony held to commemorate the International Day of UN Peacekeepers, India paid tribute to those who have sacrificed their lives in duty.

Organized by the Indian and Austrian missions to the United Nations, this annual event aims to honor over 4,000 fallen peacekeepers, both uniformed and civilian, whose ultimate sacrifice was in the name of peace. India's Permanent Representative to the UN, Harish Parvathaneni, acknowledged that UN Peacekeepers, also known as Blue Helmets, are the enduring presence of the United Nations in global crisis regions.

India ranks as one of the largest contributors to UN peacekeeping efforts, having deployed nearly 300,000 troops across more than 50 missions since 1948. During these operations, 184 Indian peacekeepers have lost their lives. Looking ahead, the UN Headquarters in New York will continue to honor these sacrifices with a special commemoration.

A standout moment in this celebration is Major Abhilasha Barak's recognition with the Military Gender Advocate of the Year Award for 2025, underscoring India's commitment to promoting gender equality in peacekeeping efforts. Barak's work with the UN Interim Force in Lebanon has been particularly noted for its positive impact on women and girls.
