Pete Hegseth, the US Secretary of War, credited Donald Trump with assisting in diffusing tensions between India and Pakistan. He characterized India as a crucial ally in the US strategy for the Indo-Pacific region, during his remarks at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore.

Hegseth commended the progress made between New Delhi and Islamabad post-conflict last year, though India continues to maintain that their peace was established independently without third-party mediation. He stressed the importance of continued security perspectives shared by India and Pakistan.

The US official emphasized India's growing importance as a defense partner, highlighting modernization efforts in the Indian military to maintain power balance in the Indian Ocean. He also outlined the US vision for a stable Indo-Pacific region where no single power can dominate, pointing out increasing cooperation with regional allies.
