In Jharsuguda, Odisha, a suspect linked to 11 criminal cases sustained injuries during a police shootout. The incident occurred in the Rengali police station area, leaving Jay Chauhan, 30, with a leg wound. Authorities captured him following an operation to prevent a planned dacoity.
Chauhan, the alleged leader of a gang of five, opened fire when confronted by police. Officers retaliated in self-defense. His location was traced from intelligence inputs regarding a dacoity scheme targeting a financial institution. Post-encounter, Chauhan's accomplices were also detained.
Jharsuguda Superintendent G R Raghavendra confirmed Chauhan's involvement in offences including attempted murder and violation of the Arms Act. During the operation, police recovered weapons, including a country-made pistol, two empty cartridges, and a sharp-edged weapon. Similar police actions were also recorded across Odisha.
