Kuki groups in India have demanded a separate administration for the Kuki-Zo community and called for an unbiased investigation into recent clashes in Manipur. They argue the community has suffered decades of displacement and violence, with their constitutional rights being systematically undermined.
Speaking at a press conference in Delhi, representatives of the Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO) highlighted their demands for justice and a political resolution to the ongoing crisis in Manipur. They insist on enforcing Article 371C and restoring the Hill Areas Committee's constitutional role, claiming hill village administration has been improperly shifted to valley authorities.
The organisations also reiterated their call for a formal inquiry into violence during 1992-93, where they allege over 1,000 Kuki civilians were killed. Ongoing issues include mass displacement, detention of community members, and recent violence in Ukhrul and Kamjong districts.
The KSO expressed frustration over the lack of arrests following attacks blamed on the ZUF (Kamson faction) and urged the Indian government for decisive intervention and dialogue to secure an honourable political settlement for the Kuki-Zo people.
