Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party, accused the BJP of being behind a violent attack on Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee in West Bengal. According to Yadav, the incident reflects the BJP's tendencies towards aggressive and divisive politics.
In a social media statement, Yadav criticized the BJP, describing the assault on Banerjee as a testament to the state's anarchic leadership. The attack occurred when Banerjee was visiting Sonarpur town to console families affected by post-poll violence. Police reported that during the visit, Banerjee faced a hostile crowd that hurled stones, shoes, and eggs, also attempting physical assaults while chanting hostile slogans.
Despite the chaos, Banerjee escaped the throng with the aid of his companions, utilizing a cricket helmet for protection. The MP was subsequently taken to a hospital to address injuries including neck, back, and waist pain. The episode also saw the presence of former chief minister Mamata Banerjee at Banerjee's side in the hospital.
Yadav condemned the lack of police presence during such a sensitive situation, suggesting it indicated a broader conspiracy orchestrated by the BJP government in the state.
