Delhi is on track to welcome its inaugural pet park, aimed at providing a dedicated space for pets and their owners. After nearly two years of inactivity, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has revitalized the project located in Jangpura. Officials confirmed progress on Saturday, with fresh tenders being issued.

The upcoming facility, sprawling over 1.5 acres near the Jangpura-Defence Colony flyover, will be managed by a private operator selected through a public-private partnership. An MCD representative assured that the necessary agency would be appointed shortly, overcoming previous delays from the local standing committee's approval procedures.

This comprehensive pet-friendly hub will include dog trails, swimming areas, grooming facilities, and a day-care service to support working pet owners. Safety features such as double-gated entries will ensure secure surroundings. Registration requirements will mandate that only registered and vaccinated dogs gain access to the park.

The success of this initiative will guide further development, potentially leading to similar projects citywide. MCD officials intend to observe the response, footfall, and usage patterns before exploring additional sites for pet parks. In consideration of animal welfare, the facility may eventually feature separate provisions for stray dogs as well.
