In a night marred by violence and destruction, Pakistani shelling in the border district of Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir, escalated tensions on Wednesday, resulting in nine fatalities and injuring 28 others. The attack came shortly after India's 'Operation Sindoor' targeted nine terror installations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
The onslaught extended beyond Poonch, hitting areas in Rajouri and Kupwara districts. Residents described the shelling as indiscriminate and barbaric, forcing many to flee their homes. The damage was extensive, with residential homes, markets, and even historical sites like the Poonch Fort sustaining significant damage.
Local authorities rushed to coordinate relief efforts despite the ongoing threat of shelling, ensuring the safety of the civilian population remained the top priority. National and local leaders condemned the targeting of civilians, highlighting the grave humanitarian impact of the conflict.
