In a significant political shift ahead of the civic polls, seven former NCP (SP) corporators in Thane have defected to the Shiv Sena.
The transition was formalized on Thursday in the presence of prominent party figures, including Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske.
Among the new Shiv Sena members are key personalities like Milind Patil, the erstwhile Leader of the Opposition in the Thane Municipal Corporation, and Surekha Patil, previously the working president of the Thane Mahila NCP (SP).
This development is considered a strategic setback for NCP (SP) in its traditional bastion of Kalwa-Mumbra, notably affecting the influence of regional leader Jitendra Awhad.
Shiv Sena has reiterated its dedication to political activities beyond electoral gains, asserting that its year-round commitment has attracted such defections to strengthen the leadership of Eknath Shinde.
