An enlightening report by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) has dissected the election spending of Delhi's politicians, showcasing a trend of frugality. Of the 69 legislators analyzed, a striking 45% declared expenses less than half of their given limits in constituency elections.

Despite the permissible limit, the BJP's 47 MLAs averaged a hefty Rs 24.68 lakh in spending, representing 61.7% of their allocated ceiling, in stark contrast to the AAP's 22 MLAs, who spent just Rs 12.48 lakh, or 31.2% of the limit. The highest spender was BJP's Anil Kumar Sharma, with a substantial Rs 31.91 lakh.

The analysis dived into not just the spending figures but also the sources of campaign funds, revealing a significant 75% reliance on party backing. The trend underscored a traditional approach, with minimal investment in virtual campaigning even as digital outreach gains traction elsewhere.
