Khap Leaders Convene Amidst Operation Sindoor Developments

In response to recent national developments after Operation Sindoor, khap leaders have called an emergency panchayat in Muzaffarnagar. The meeting follows the Bharatiya Kisan Union's support for the government's anti-terror stance. The confab is pivotal due to tensions after BKU spokesperson Rakesh Tikait's heckling incident at a protest rally.

In the wake of Operation Sindoor's evolving national impact, an emergency panchayat of khap leaders is scheduled for May 10 at the Sarv Khap headquarters in Soram village, Muzaffarnagar district. Sarv Khap secretary, Chaudhary Subhash Balyan, confirmed to PTI on Friday that all khap (caste council) leaders have been invited.

'Preparations for the panchayat are underway. It is set to be a crucial gathering given the developments following Operation Sindoor,' said Balyan. The convening comes just after the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) expressed support for the Central government's counter-terror operation and halted all protests.

BKU national spokesperson Rakesh Tikait announced in a video statement the organization backed the government's anti-terror efforts and would postpone agitations. This decision follows a May 2 incident during an 'Akrosh rally,' where Tikait faced heckling and his turban was reportedly removed—a move he called 'politically motivated sabotage.'
