U.S. President Donald Trump's senior envoys are slated to head to Istanbul for potential peace negotiations concerning the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, sources revealed on Tuesday. Despite the plans, the participation of Russian government representatives is still uncertain.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy will only attend if Russian President Vladimir Putin is present, posing a challenge to Moscow. The Kremlin has yet to confirm Putin's attendance, with their expectations becoming clearer by early Thursday, according to a senior U.S. official.
Despite the uncertainties, the United States is optimistic about securing a comprehensive ceasefire involving land, air, sea, and essential infrastructure. Failure to agree may lead to increased sanctions on Russia by the European Union, particularly targeting its shadow fleet.
