In a significant political development, former Shiv Sena leaders Sudhakar Badgujar and Babanrao Gholap joined the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday. However, their induction was met with resistance from within the party ranks, particularly from BJP MLA Seema Hiray, who opposed Badgujar due to his controversial history.
Initial confusion surrounded Badgujar's entry into the party, as Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule claimed unawareness of the matter before formally inducting the leaders at the Mumbai party office. The two newcomers, both hailing from Nashik, are tasked with addressing local concerns and strengthening the party before the upcoming civic elections.
Amidst discord from some Nashik BJP members, Girish Mahajan, a close ally of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, supported the move, highlighting the need for unity and expansion within the party. Badgujar, expressing gratitude, downplayed past controversies and pledged to contribute positively to the BJP's cause.
