Madhya Pradesh's state Congress has voiced strong support for installing a statue of B.R. Ambedkar at the Gwalior Bench of the state's High Court, amid an ongoing conflict between factions of lawyers. Congress Chief Jitu Patwari has declared the party's willingness to mobilize for this cause, criticizing the opposing stance.
In a pointed address to the press in Bhopal, Patwari accused the BJP and RSS of disrespecting Ambedkar's legacy, following Union Minister Amit Shah's controversial remarks in Parliament. He highlighted a contentious poster in the Gwalior-Chambal division, questioning the historical recognition of Ambedkar as the architect of the Indian Constitution, which Patwari argues attempts to distort national history.
Patwari further revealed that the Congress party is preparing a series of political actions and public awareness initiatives, including door-to-door campaigns, community feasts, and a state-wide fast on June 25th. Senior party leader Digvijaya Singh added weight to the issue, insisting on Ambedkar's pivotal role in drafting the Constitution and questioning the motives behind the opposition.
