On Friday, Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav raised concerns over the recently inaugurated Gorakhpur Link Expressway, labeling it the 'most expensive highway' rather than an expressway as claimed. His remarks followed the inauguration of the project by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
During media interactions, Yadav emphasized the high financial outlay of Rs 7,283 crore for the 91.352 km project, arguing it exceeds permissible costs for a four-lane highway. He critiqued the state's failure to adhere to established construction standards.
This criticism comes amidst political tensions, as Adityanath has accused the Samajwadi Party of dubious associations. Yadav countered by urging clarity on such allegations. He further compared the project to the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, citing superior standards during his party's governance.
