Counting for the Kaliganj assembly by-election in West Bengal's Nadia district began on Monday, carried out under stringent security, an Election Commission official confirmed.

The process kicked off at 8 am, marking the start of a pivotal election necessitated by the February demise of Trinamool Congress MLA Nasiruddin Ahamed.

This by-election sees TMC's Alifa Ahamed, the late MLA's daughter, vying for the seat alongside BJP's Ashis Ghosh and Congress candidate Kabil Uddin Shaikh, who has backing from CPI(M).
