In a vehement critique of the Modi administration, the Congress has charged the government with enacting a 'systematic and dangerous' assault on Indian democracy over the past eleven years. Labeling the situation as 'Undeclared Emergency@11,' Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh highlighted what he described as an alarming assault on democratic institutions.
During the anniversary of India's Emergency, Ramesh alleged an ongoing campaign to weaken Parliament and undermine Constitutional bodies. His allegations also included the spread of hate speech, crackdowns on civil liberties, and an alleged misuse of agencies to intimidate critics and opposition figures.
Ramesh further asserted a deterioration in the autonomy of media and judiciary, with charges of regulatory overreach stifling business leaders. In a detailed statement, the Congress leader condemned the climate of fear allegedly fostered by the government, with a call for public awareness and action.
