Uttar Pradesh Congress President Ajay Rai has launched a scathing attack on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) following statements by its General Secretary, Dattatreya Hosabale, suggesting a reconsideration of the terms 'socialist' and 'secular' in the Preamble of the Indian Constitution.

In an interview with ANI, Rai criticized the organization for shifting narratives, highlighting the irony of the RSS conducting a Tiranga Yatra despite not hoisting the tricolor for decades. He asserted that secularism is a national treasure that belongs to everyone and should not be altered. Hosabale had commented on the insertion of socialist and secular during the Emergency, suggesting it warrants a contemporary review.

Rai did not stop at the RSS. He also targeted the BJP-led Uttar Pradesh government over the alleged lack of development in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's constituency of Varanasi. He accused the state administration, under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, of prioritizing divisive tactics over tangible progress, referencing the Kanwar Yatra name plate controversy last year.
