In a significant development, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau arrested Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia in Amritsar on charges of disproportionate assets, showcasing the escalating political tensions in the region.
A heavy police presence was noted near Majithia's office, where his party supporters were notably barred from entry. Meanwhile, his wife, Ganieve Kaur, an Akali MLA, was seen challenging the authorities, demanding her right to be present at the office.
The arrest comes as part of a larger investigation including allegations of laundering Rs 540 crore in drug money. Majithia, previously booked under the NDPS Act, faced similar accusations, further fueling the political friction between the AAP-led government and the Akali Dal.
