The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has made a decisive move to expel Subhendu Das, a senior leader from its Purba Bardhaman unit, citing 'anti-party activities' as the primary reason. The decision was announced by Rabindranath Chatterjee, MLA and President of the Purba Bardhaman unit, during a press conference on Wednesday night.

Subhendu Das, who also served as the vice-president of the TMC youth congress, had taken to social media to express views that contradicted the party's stance, adding to the tension leading to his expulsion. Chatterjee emphasized that this action was not a suspension, but a complete removal from the party.

A key factor in Das's expulsion was his legal action seeking an NIA investigation into a bomb explosion at Rajua village, which resulted in a fatality. This legal move, along with his public remarks, were seen as undermining party discipline. Chatterjee had previously suggested the explosion might have been aimed against him, upholding his faith in state investigators, despite Das's concerns over public safety.
