The Communist Party of India (Marxist) or CPI(M) organized a rally in Kolkata on Monday, highlighting alleged harassment of Bengali-speaking migrant workers originating from West Bengal in various states.
Led by CPI(M) West Bengal state secretary Mohammed Salim, the rally moved from Rubi Hospital crossing to Gariahat, protesting attempts in some states to categorize these workers as illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. Participants of the rally attributed these actions to the influence of the BJP and the RSS.
The issue has also caught the attention of other political parties, with the ruling Trinamool Congress and Congress in West Bengal voicing their protests. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has been outspoken on the topic, reflecting widespread political concern.
