The Rajya Sabha proceedings on Thursday witnessed turbulent sessions as Opposition parties, led by Congress, TMC, and DMK, stalled operations demanding a discussion on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar. The session was first adjourned until noon and later until 2 PM due to relentless disruptions.
Deputy Chairman Harivansh urged members to proceed with the scheduled business, lamenting the loss of 30 hours to disruptions. Despite this, Opposition members continued to press for a rollback of the SIR until after the upcoming Assembly elections, highlighting their stance with slogans and protests.
The government, however, held firm on its prerogative, with Leader of the House J P Nadda pointing out the Opposition's contradictory actions, especially after staging a walkout during a debate on Operation Sindoor. The day concluded with members across various parties voicing diverse regional concerns, from electoral integrity to crime against women.
