In a sweeping political move, seven former councillors of the Shiv Sena (UBT) from Yavatmal in Maharashtra's Vidarbha region have shifted allegiances to the ruling Shiv Sena faction led by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The defection is considered a notable blow to the faction led by Uddhav Thackeray.
Former chairpersons of the Ner municipality, among others, joined the party in Thane on Thursday, in an event attended by Shinde and cabinet minister Sanjay Rathod. The shift is underscored by a promise of forthcoming inductions, with thousands more office-bearers and activists from western Vidarbha expected to join.
Deputy CM Shinde attributed this influx to the perceived success of the Mahayuti government's development initiatives. He assured supporters of the party's commitment to promises made, emphasizing the defeat of political opponents who underestimated Shiv Sena's appeal.
