BJP's Partition Pain Campaign: Revisiting 1947 for Electoral Roll Revision

In a politically charged move, West Bengal's BJP wing is invoking the emotional history of Partition in its new campaign to demand a special intensive revision (SIR) of the voters' list. The intent is to remove allegedly bogus names, party insiders revealed.
The initiative follows a directive to district leaders to hold seminars across the state, highlighting the plight of Bengali Hindus who fled East Pakistan, and how their rightful place in the voter list is threatened by 'infiltrators with forged papers.'
While the BJP believes this Partition-themed outreach will resonate with many Hindu voters, the Trinamool Congress has slammed the campaign as an effort to polarize the electorate ahead of the 2026 assembly elections.
