BRS MLC and Telangana Jagruthi president K Kavitha demanded that the Congress government separate the proposed 42% reservation for Backward Classes (BCs) from the Muslim quota. Kavitha began a 72-hour fast in Hyderabad's Indira Park, citing BJP opposition to Muslim inclusion in the BC quota. However, her fast was ended prematurely after police denied permission for its full duration.
Kavitha has urged the Congress government to introduce a separate bill in the assembly to provide 10% reservation for Muslims without affecting the 42% quota for BCs. She sought clarification from the government on whether Muslims are included in the proposed 42% quota and criticized Congress for permitting her protest only for a limited time.
In response to Kavitha's actions, state Backward Classes Minister Ponnam Prabhakar suggested relocating her fast to Delhi, where the ultimate decision will be made. Meanwhile, the Telangana Legislative Assembly's bills, which propose a 42% reservation for BCs, await Presidential assent. Congress plans nation-wide demonstrations to fast-track this approval.
