Inga Ruginiene Nominated as Lithuania's Next Prime Minister
The Lithuanian Social Democrats have nominated Inga Ruginiene, current Social Affairs Minister, as their candidate for prime minister. Ruginiene, a former trade union leader, is set to replace Gintautas Paluckas, following his resignation. She requires parliamentary approval before taking office.

The ruling Social Democrats in Lithuania have put forward Social Affairs Minister Inga Ruginiene as their prime ministerial nominee. If approved, she will succeed Gintautas Paluckas, who recently stepped down amid controversy.
Chairman Mindaugas Sinkevicius announced Ruginiene's nomination on Wednesday, emphasizing her alignment with social democratic principles. Ruginiene's prior leadership in Lithuania's trade union confederation adds to her profile.
The party, holding a majority in parliament, has formed a coalition with two other parties, though their stance on Ruginiene's candidacy remains uncertain. Lithuania's upcoming parliamentary elections are set for 2028.
