The Urgency for Jammu and Kashmir's Constitutional Restoration

The Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) emphasizes that while restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir is important, the focus should not sideline the critical need to restore Articles 370 and 35A, which define the region's identity and autonomy. The PDP urges other political entities to prioritize this complete constitutional restoration.

The Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) has announced its support for Jammu and Kashmir's restoration of statehood, but insists that the real priority must be the reinstatement of Articles 370 and 35A, which were abrogated on August 5, 2019.

PDP Chief Spokesperson Mehboob Beg highlighted that while the initiative for statehood restoration is welcome, it should not overshadow the greater constitutional rights issue. He criticized the National Conference (NC) for not showing urgency in addressing Jammu and Kashmir's special status.

Beg asserted that focusing solely on statehood dovetails too closely with the Central government's agenda, urging the NC to use its influence for a complete constitutional restoration. The PDP pledges support for any collective action that aims to restore Jammu and Kashmir's full constitutional standing.
