Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri is set to embark on a two-day diplomatic mission to Nepal, commencing on Sunday. This visit is part of the groundwork for Nepalese Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli's anticipated journey to India, slated for next month.

The Ministry of External Affairs has indicated that Misri's visit follows an invitation extended by his Nepalese counterpart, Amrit Bahadur Rai. The ties between India and Nepal are described as robust and amicable, with notable advancements in various cooperative domains, as highlighted in the announcement of Misri's visit scheduled for August 17-18.

Nepal holds strategic importance for India, given their deep-rooted 'Roti-Beti' relationship. As a landlocked nation, Nepal relies on India for access to the sea and transportation of goods. This visit aims to prepare the stage for PM Oli's potential September 16 visit to New Delhi, though no official confirmation has been provided yet.
