The Election Commission of India is gearing up for a critical press conference amidst swirling allegations of 'vote theft' made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. The move comes as opposition parties amplify their protests over the ongoing intensive electoral roll revision in Bihar.
In an unusual step, the EC is using this platform, generally reserved for announcing election schedules, to confront claims leveled against it. Gandhi has accused the commission of manipulating voter data and referenced irregularities in Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Haryana.
The EC has issued a call to Gandhi for evidence, asking for names and a signed declaration of those allegedly wrongfully listed or delisted. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has demanded the EC reveal details of 65 lakh deleted names, highlighting the transparency crisis amid this contentious electoral issue.
