Hungarian Opposition Leader Denounces Russian Interference

Peter Magyar, the leader of Hungary's opposition, is insisting on Russia's non-interference in Hungarian politics, a demand he conveyed through a public letter. This response follows a statement from Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service which framed Magyar as loyal to 'globalist elites' and suggested possible regime change in Budapest.

The Tisza Party, led by Magyar, currently surpasses Prime Minister Viktor Orban's Fidesz in the polls. With upcoming parliamentary elections, Magyar calls for Russia to respect Hungary's sovereignty and cease any disinformation or cyber operations that could influence the electoral process.

Amid criticism of Orban's close ties to Moscow and stance against military aid to Ukraine, Magyar, once a governmental insider, advocates for pragmatic relationships with Russia. However, he emphasizes that protecting democratic processes and Hungary's sovereignty are prerequisites for bilateral cooperation.
