In a political maneuver that has sparked controversy, senior DMK leader TKS Elangovan accused the BJP of nominating Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan as vice president to gain electoral leverage ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, slated for March-April 2026.
While extending congratulations to Radhakrishnan, Vaiko, general secretary of MDMK, extended his party's willingness to transcend party lines due to Radhakrishnan's Tamilian identity and respect for diverse political viewpoints. However, Elangovan criticized the BJP's motivations, questioning their commitment to Tamil Nadu people.
Elangovan further alleged that the central government was insulting Tamil culture and neglecting issues such as the Keeladi archaeological findings. He reiterated claims that the BJP was sidelining Tamil Nadu, failing to support its development and openly insulting its citizens.
