An FIR has been filed against Shaukat Ali, the president of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen's (AIMIM) Uttar Pradesh unit, following allegations of derogatory remarks against historical figure Maharaja Suheldev during a party event, which have raised concerns over communal harmony.
The FIR was lodged by Tilak Ram Mishra, the district general secretary of the Hindu Raksha Dal. Mishra accused Ali of referring to Maharaja Suheldev as a "lutera" (robber) while praising Salar Masud Ghazi as just and fair, attributing a religio-communal angle to the statement.
The remarks have provoked significant controversy, particularly after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath recently unveiled a memorial in honor of Suheldev as a legendary warrior. The ongoing investigation will determine the potential breach of Sections 353(2) and 196(1)B of the BNS, officials confirmed.
