In Karnataka's Aland constituency, Congress MLA B R Patil has raised serious allegations about the 2023 state assembly elections, claiming targeted deletions of minority and lower caste votes. Patil, who won the election by a margin of over 10,000 votes, asserted that the deletions were strategically aimed at weakening his support base.
During a press event in New Delhi, Rahul Gandhi flagged the Aland constituency case as indicative of systemic issues. He highlighted that the top 10 polling booths with high deletion rates were Congress-dominated areas, suggesting a deliberate operation against the party's voters.
Patil accused the Election Commission of negligence and called for a thorough investigation. With claims supported by the returning officer's complaint leading to an FIR, he warned of significant implications if justice is not served, and questioned the integrity of top election officials in addressing these allegations.
