In a fervent critique, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi accused the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of promoting an ideology rooted in 'cowardice.' Speaking at an event at EIA University of Colombia, Gandhi highlighted a statement by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, where he remarked on China's superior power, as a reflection of this ideology. He argued that the RSS encourages targeting the weak while fleeing from the strong.

Gandhi cited Vinayak Damodar Savarkar's writings, alleging that the Hindutva ideologue recounted an incident of violence against a Muslim man as a moment of pride, which he equated to cowardice. He also issued a stern condemnation of the Narendra Modi government, emphasizing that the greatest challenge India faces is the ongoing attack on its democratic framework. According to Gandhi, this attack poses a significant risk to the nation's diversity.

Highlighting India's capabilities in engineering and healthcare, Gandhi remained optimistic about the country's potential but called for structural reforms. He warned that the democratic system, which he views as essential for nurturing India's myriad religions, traditions, and languages, is under siege. Gandhi concluded that allowing these diverse elements to coexist freely is vital for national harmony, cautioning against rising internal tensions.
