In a statement issued on Thursday, AICC General Secretary K C Venugopal accused the Centre of showing political discrimination against Kerala by not granting the complete fund sought for the rehabilitation of disaster-affected Wayanad.
Venugopal, who represents Alappuzha in Parliament, called on Union Ministers Suresh Gopi and George Kurian to clarify their positions on the central government's approach. He criticized Gopi for not openly addressing the situation in Wayanad while holding public meetings elsewhere.
Venugopal alleged that the Centre allocated only Rs 260.56 crore against the requested Rs 2,219 crore for Wayanad rehabilitation, pointing out the larger allocations given to other states. He claimed the central government is undermining the federal structure by economically sidelining states that oppose the ruling party.
