A Diplomatic Breakthrough: UN Allows Taliban Leader's India Visit
Amir Khan Muttaqi

Afghanistan's Acting Foreign Minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, will make a significant visit to India after receiving an exemption from the UN Security Council's travel ban. This visit, approved by the Taliban Sanctions Committee, marks the first of its kind since the Taliban's return to power in 2021.

Listed by the UN in 2001 with restrictions including a travel ban, asset freeze, and arms embargo, Muttaqi's travel comes after months of diplomatic negotiations and the need for international engagement with the Taliban-led government.

India, which has not yet recognized the Taliban government, continues to advocate for inclusive governance in Afghanistan, emphasizing that Afghan soil must not serve as a base for terrorist activities against any nation. This trip aims to strengthen ties amid ongoing regional security concerns.
