The landslides in Darjeeling have claimed 24 lives, with several still missing and tourists trapped in isolated hill areas.
In a statement on X, Sarma emphasized, "We are extremely distressed by the devastation and loss of lives in Darjeeling and elsewhere in North Bengal due to heavy rains." Assam has pledged support to West Bengal's government for rescue and relief operations amid the natural disaster.
Echoing sentiments of solidarity, Sarma assured, "The Government of Assam is committed to extend any possible assistance that is required to deal with ongoing floods and landslides," highlighting the state's readiness to help Sikkim recover from similar challenges following torrential rains in the region.
