Congress Accuses BJP of Stalling Women's Reservation Bill Implementation

In a recent press conference at Rajiv Bhawan, Congress Rajya Sabha MP Ranjeet Ranjan lambasted the BJP-led government for allegedly spreading misleading information about the women's reservation Bill. Ranjan accused the central administration of failing to seriously implement the 33% quota for women, even after it received the President's assent in 2023.

Ranjan highlighted that the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, or the 128th Constitutional Amendment, was approved by both Houses of Parliament in September 2023. She questioned why the BJP is delaying its implementation, when it could be enforced immediately within the current Parliament's 543-member strength.

Further, Ranjan criticized the introduction of the 131st Constitutional Amendment, stating it primarily focused on delimitation and Union Territories rather than genuinely addressing women's reservation. She called for a reservation based on updated census data, emphasizing Congress's historical role in advancing women's quotas.
