West Bengal Election Battle Heats Up: BJP vs TMC Showdown

The much-anticipated first phase of the West Bengal assembly elections has come to a close, bringing to the forefront critical issues such as food habits, cross-border infiltration, and a contentious electoral roll revision. The main political contenders, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Trinamool Congress (TMC), have launched comprehensive campaigns to capture votes across 152 constituencies on the eve of April 23.

Amidst fiery exchanges, BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, accused the TMC of perpetuating political violence and corruption, exploiting infiltration for electoral gains. In contrast, TMC leaders criticized the BJP's unfulfilled promises and projected confidence in securing another term, with party leader Mamata Banerjee emphasizing her belief in TMC's triumph.

The Election Commission, acknowledging the heightened tension, intensified security measures by deploying approximately 2,450 companies of central paramilitary forces.
