Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal launched a scathing critique against the BJP-led central administration and the Election Commission regarding the expansive deployment of security personnel for the West Bengal assembly elections, labeling it a 'gross abuse' of state apparatus that signals a 'state of emergency.'
Sibal accused Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of colluding with the BJP to ensure their victory in the state. Furthermore, he criticized Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for his historical inaccuracies and underscored the inappropriate use of national resources for electoral gain.
The elections in West Bengal, largely polarized, will commence on Thursday, focusing on identity issues over economic concerns. This pivotal first phase encompasses 152 seats and could determine whether BJP maintains its foothold in north Bengal or if the TMC regains influence.
