The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance is gearing up for the upcoming Maharashtra legislative council polls. On Thursday, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) (SP) made a public appeal to Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, urging him to contest the opposition's only likely winning seat.
Congress, as a major ally, recognizes the strategic importance of Thackeray's candidacy, with Maharashtra Congress Chief Harshwardhan Sapkal meeting Thackeray to discuss the possibility. Sapkal noted that Thackeray's leadership is seen as critical to the MVA's success and emphasized that any decision will be made collaboratively by all three alliance constituents.
With nine council seats at play, including those held by Thackeray and Neelam Gorhe, the stage is set for a notable political contest. As parties strategize for the May elections, the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance is expected to dominate, but the opposition hopes that seasoned leaders like Thackeray can secure their presence in the council.
