The by-election for the Baramati Assembly constituency in Maharashtra witnessed a voter turnout of 58.27% by 6 pm on Thursday, as reported by election officials. Leading the contest is Sunetra Pawar, widow of the late deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who passed away in a plane crash on January 28.
With the political landscape devoid of significant opposition, Sunetra Pawar is poised to secure a victory, buoyed by a wave of sympathy and her family's longstanding influence in the region. The results are set to be announced on May 4, amid expectations of her triumph.
Despite 23 candidates standing in Baramati, no major political parties have fielded contestants against Sunetra Pawar, effectively giving her a virtual walkover. The peaceful voting process commenced at 7 am and concluded at 6 pm across the constituency's polling stations.
