In a sharp rebuke, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday took a strong stand against Prime Minister Narendra Modi's comments regarding Jadavpur University, accusing him of harming the university's reputation. Banerjee questioned Modi's description of Jadavpur's students and accused the Prime Minister of disrespecting an established educational institution that consistently ranks high in the government's NIRF framework.

Banerjee further criticized the central government's definition of anarchy, asserting it to be systemic injustice rather than student protests. She outlined various instances of what she termed true anarchy, including political apathy towards farmers, the release of criminals for convenience, and societal divisions for votes, all while defending the students' right to protest as a democratic process.

Contrastingly, Prime Minister Modi, speaking at an election rally, expressed concerns over alleged anti-national activities within the university and criticized the state government for failing to maintain law and order on campus. He emphasized the need for a peaceful academic environment, free from threats and chaos, questioning the state's ability to safeguard its educational institutions.
