In a heated political climate, Himachal Pradesh's Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has voiced sharp criticism against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) following their padyatra protest. The protest, organized by the BJP, was in response to opposition parties voting against a constitutional amendment bill.
Sukhu targeted the BJP's intentions, questioning their silence on crucial issues such as the discontinuation of the Revenue Deficit Grant and their delayed actions regarding the Women's Reservation Bill passed in 2023. He argued that these protests lack genuine commitment to implementing the bill and reflect political diversionary tactics.
Moreover, Sukhu accused the BJP of failing to act in Himachal Pradesh's interest, particularly during natural disasters and the withholding of an aid package. Meanwhile, BJP officials, including state president Rajeev Bindal, have countered, accusing Congress of treating women as mere vote banks without true empowerment.
