NDA's Strength Grows with Key AAP MPs' Defection
The NDA has strengthened its position in the Rajya Sabha after seven AAP MPs switched allegiance. Despite this boost, the BJP still lacks the majority needed for crucial constitutional amendments. The NDA's aim is to reach a two-thirds majority, critical for passing significant legislation.

The NDA saw its ranks swell on Friday as seven AAP MPs defected to the ruling alliance. Despite this boost, the coalition remains 18 members short of a two-thirds majority in the Rajya Sabha, with the BJP alone 10 MPs short of a simple majority in the Upper House.
The NDA currently holds the support of 145 MPs, needing 163 for a two-thirds majority in the 244-member house. Achieving this would ease the passage of amendments crucial for the administration's agenda, including the 33 percent reservation for women in legislatures.
With the Rajya Sabha Chairman's approval, the BJP's total could rise to 113 MPs, supplemented by seven nominated and two independent MPs, hitting the halfway mark of 122. The recent shift is a strategic move to solidify legislative support in upcoming sessions.
