An Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate was taken into custody for allegedly fabricating a story about a shooting incident targeting him. Ajay Bambhaniya, contesting for the Una municipality in Gujarat, claimed he was attacked, a claim that was dismantled following a police investigation.
The scrutiny included inputs from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), which confirmed that no such incident took place. Authorities also found Bambhaniya in possession of a live bullet, captured on CCTV, raising further suspicions about the candidate's intentions.
AAP's Gujarat unit chief, Isudan Gadhvi, alleged that the BJP had threatened Bambhaniya to exit the election race before the purported incident, raising political tensions. The case has highlighted the misuse of legal systems for political gains, according to the police.
