Political tensions in West Bengal escalated in Howrah and Haroa ahead of the second phase of polling scheduled for April 29. The violence broke out during a roadshow of the BJP's Uttar Howrah candidate Umesh Rai, leading to clashes between BJP and TMC supporters.
A police officer confirmed that altercations started when TMC supporters chanted 'Joy Bangla' from their election office as the BJP's roadshow passed by, prompting BJP supporters to respond with 'Jai Shri Ram'. The conflict resulted in scuffles with central forces eventually intervening by baton-charging supporters from both parties.
Further unrest was reported in Haroa, North 24 Parganas district, where a police sub-inspector was injured while attempting to mediate between TMC and ISF supporters. The conflict erupted after ISF supporters were allegedly taunted by TMC supporters following a roadshow, culminating in a clash that injured participants from both sides.
