Chaos ensued in the Odisha Assembly during a special session meant to discuss the role of women in Indian democracy. The uproar was triggered by a harrowing incident of a man transporting his sister's skeleton to a bank in Keonjhar, which led Congress MLAs to briefly walk out in protest.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi criticized the opposition for allegedly obstructing the women's quota and delimitation bills in the Lok Sabha. He also questioned the BJD's 24-year governance in Odisha, arguing their 33% reservation for women in local governance was insufficient.
In counter, Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik condemned the state government over the Keonjhar incident, citing it as a failure to serve the people of Odisha. Tensions continued as Patnaik accused the BJP-led government of merely using women's dignity for political narratives.
