Maharashtra MVA Alliance Unites for Legislative Council Elections

The Congress Party has softened its stance concerning the upcoming Maharashtra legislative council elections. On Thursday, they announced their decision not to field a candidate, opting instead to support their ally, Shiv Sena (UBT)'s nominee, Ambadas Danve. This announcement follows intensive discussions between both parties.

The move comes amid visible tensions within the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), with both the Shiv Sena (UBT) and Congress initially planning to field candidates for the single seat available to the Opposition. Maharashtra Congress chief Harshwardhan Sapkal emphasized unity against the BJP, while Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut underscored the importance of supporting regional parties.

As nine members, including Uddhav Thackeray, prepare to retire from the Upper House on May 13, the MVA alliance plans a consolidated approach. Nomination filing ends soon, with the MVA's sights set on overcoming the odds to unify against political adversaries in the forthcoming polls.
