Vijay of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) is set to become Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister on May 7, following a stellar debut in state elections. TVK's rise challenges decades of DMK and AIADMK rule. Support from smaller parties is anticipated to help TVK secure a governing majority.

In a significant political development, Tamil Nadu is preparing for Vijay of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) to take office as the state's new Chief Minister on May 7. The swearing-in is anticipated to be held at Chennai's Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, sources close to the event revealed.
TVK's unprecedented success in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections saw them win 108 out of 234 seats, changing the state's political landscape dominated by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). Falling short by 10 seats of the 118 majority, TVK is expected to seek coalition support from parties like Congress, PMK, Left parties, CPI(M), and VCK.
The results dealt a blow to outgoing Chief Minister MK Stalin of the DMK, who lost his Kolathur seat to TVK's VS Babu by 8,795 votes. With only 59 seats secured, DMK's hold has waned. Governor Rajendra Arlekar accepted Stalin's resignation, requesting him to remain until the new government forms. Vijay's rise signifies a historical shift, ending DMK and AIADMK's uninterrupted control since 1977 and aligning him with actor-turned-politicians like NT Rama Rao. Upcoming discussions with alliance leaders, including Thol Thirumavalavan, are planned to strategize future political directions. (ANI)
